The inaugural season of the National Hockey Association began in January of 1910. The season originally had a start date of January 5th, but was suspended immediately once the league absorbed the Ottawa Hockey Club and Montreal Shamrocks teams from the Canadian Hockey Association. The season restarted on January 15th and ran until March 15th. Games played prior to the inclusion of the two new teams were removed from the record.
Seven teams played a 12 game season. During this period, the Ottawa Hockey Club played two Stanley Cup challenges, but lost the Cup to their rivals, the Montreal Wanderers. The Wanderers won the league championship and eventually played a Cup challenge afterwards.
